AET Updates SWR Target and Commits to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions 100% by 2030
WATERLOO, ONTARIO – AET Group has set a 100% greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction target by 2030, supported by Sustainable Waterloo Region’s Regional Sustainability Initiative. This target is our second GHG emission target and represents one of the most ambitious targets ever set within the program!
Our absolute GHG reduction target will look at the total emissions produced, including Scope 3 emission sources to target additional emissions from water, waste and all business-related travel (flights, personal vehicles, commuting). This commitment is one of many AET has made in partnership with Sustainable Waterloo Region, as we are also working towards a goal of 90% Waste Diversion and 30% Water Impact Reduction. We are also one of only 5 members that have already begun to track our progress against 11 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) using the SDG Action Manager since its launch in the program framework in November of 2020.
“Climate change is one of the most critical issues facing the world today and we believe the business community has a key role to play to make the future sustainable for our planet. As a company that leads by example, AET is pleased to announce our commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2030”, said Scott Freiburger, Managing Director & CEO at AET Group. “At AET, we have already achieved net zero carbon for our head office, and I am confident we can rise to the challenge and accelerate the action needed to achieve net zero carbon emissions across all operations. Meeting a net-zero commitment for the future requires innovating today. AET is moving forward on this front by making its facilities more energy efficient, increasing the use of renewable energy, electric vehicle fleet upgrades and reducing commuting through a telework program. These actions substantiate our dedication to delivering on our commitment to be net zero carbon by 2030.”
“We are so impressed with the commitment and actions we see from network organizations in Waterloo Region, and AET is a leader in our community,” said Tova Davidson, Executive Director of Sustainable Waterloo Region. “This new target marks the next step in their commitment to not only good environmental practices, but to being part of the development of a stronger, more diverse and more equitable local low carbon economy. It is an honour to work with them and support them on this journey.”
