As a company committed to being green and giving back, AET is planting trees throughout the local communities to make the world a greener place for all of us to live.

Through the 1% for the Trees initiative, AET is re-greening our natural landscapes through tree planting efforts on rural lands and in urban areas.  The idea for 1% for the Trees was inspired by founder and CEO of AET, Scott Freiburger.  To launch the initiative, AET planted 1,000 trees in the spring of 2014 as part of AET’s 15 Years in Business that represent the organizations that have done business with AET over the past 15 years.

Whether you’re an individual or a business, you can contribute to the reforestation of our planet by simply doing business with AET – working together for a sustainable difference.  As part of AET’s fight against climate change AET is committing 1% of annual profits to planting trees through partnerships organizations and communities across Canada.

The Ecological Value of Trees

Not only do trees absorb greenhouse gas emissions, but they also improve air quality, recycle water, create shade, and provide food and homes for living things across the planet. The simple act of planting trees helps sustain our communities and the environment in countless ways.

In addition to their important economic, cultural and recreational value, the ecological value of forests is vital. Forests provide critical ecosystem services, including1:

  • Capturing solar energy and create oxygen
  • Moderating local and regional climates
  • Storing water and affect water table
  • Developing and condition soils
  • Storing and recycling nutrients
  • Providing essentials of life to birds, fish and other wildlife
  • Adding to the planet’s biodiversity
  • Tempering the effects of global warming

Similarly, urban canopies provide a broad array of well-known environmental, economic, and social benefits, including2:

  • Sequestering of gaseous air pollutants and particulates.
  • Energy conservation through cooling, shade, and wind reduction
  • Storm-water attenuation
  • Noise buffering
  • Provision of wildlife habitat
  • Increased property value
  • Improved aesthetics and psychological well being
