AET Commits to 11 of the United Nations Global Compact Sustainable Development Goals

September 23, 2021

KITCHENER, ONTARIO – AET is honoured to announce its commitment to 11 of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are directly connected with the company’s business and core values.  With under 10 years left to reach the 2030 SDG targets, it is crucial that Canadian businesses work together to develop innovative solutions to the challenges we face worldwide.

Since 2020, AET’s employee-run Sustainability Team has worked to develop a framework based on our 5 core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect, Sustainable, and Solutions to determine which of the UNGC SDGs aligned with our existing company goals. Through our framework AET has implemented 18 internal targets and committed to conducting our business with honesty and integrity, fostering an inclusive culture and positive work environment, and improving the social, economic, and environmental value for all generations.

These 11 goals are focused on no poverty (SDG1), ensuring and promoting good health and well-being (SDG3), gender equality (SDG5), clean water and sanitation (SDG6), affordable and clean energy (SDG7), preferment of decent work and economic growth (SDG8), sustainable cities and communities (SDG11), responsible consumption and production (SDG12), climate action (SDG13), protecting and conserving life below water (SDG14) and sustainably manage life on land (SDG15).

“Undoubtedly, the pandemic has been challenging for so many organizations across the globe.  Despite these challenges, we never lost focus of our sustainability goals and commitments.  As a company committed to giving back to the people and places in which we work, to create more value than we consume, I am pleased to expand our commitments to the UNGC SDGs through investments in sustainable initiatives for a sustainable future,” said Scott Freiburger, Managing Director & CEO at AET Group.  “The UNGC SDGs provide AET with the roadmap to achieve a sustainable future through initiatives that address the many global challenges we face including, climate change, gender inequality, poverty, and environmental degradation.”

About the Sustainable Development Goals

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.[1]
