AET Group Inc. Recognized as One of Canada’s Greenest Employers 2022

April 20, 2022

We are honoured to announce that for the 4th consecutive year, AET was recognized as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers 2022. Now in its 15th year, Canada’s Greenest Employers is an editorial competition organized by the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. This special designation recognizes the employers that lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness. These employers have developed exceptional sustainability initiatives – and are attracting people to their organizations because of their environmental leadership. Winning employers, selected by editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, are evaluated using four main criteria:

  1. the unique environmental initiatives and programs they have developed;
  2. whether they have been successful in reducing their own environmental footprint;
  3. whether their employees are involved in these programs and contribute unique skills; and
  4. whether their environmental initiatives have become linked to the employer’s public identity, attracting new employees or customers

“A great thing about these initiatives is that they have adapted to meet the needs of today’s quickly changing work environment,” says Chantel Watkins, Junior Editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. “These employers are really putting their agility to use,” she says. “In the context of rapid changes in the realities of work, these employers have kept pace — giving their staff new and innovative ways to stay engaged in the practice of sustainability.”

Sustainability is at the forefront of AET’s culture, and we are committed to conducting our business in a manner that has a positive impact on the communities in which we live and work.  AET was recognized in the 2022 competition due to our commitment to eliminate the use of single plastics by 2030 as well as planting 30,000 trees by 2030 as part of a reforestation campaign, our in-house sustainable transportation program that features an online tracker of commuting habits, a formal telecommuting policy to encourage employees to work from home on a regular basis, subsidies for the purchase of alternative and fuel-efficient vehicles (up to $1,500), generous transit subsidies and up to $250 for the purchase of bicycles, and our outdoor space features a new naturalized front garden that features native plant species to eliminate the need for pesticides (and are watered from a rainwater collection barrel), permeable paving in the company’s back parking lot to reduce runoff into storm sewers — and a new 15.75kWh roof-mounted solar array with two EV charging stations. “We are honoured to be recognized as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers among such an outstanding group of organizations.  As we continue to work through these challenging times, we never lost focus of our sustainability goals and commitments,” says Scott Freiburger, Managing Director & CEO.  “Sustainability is at the core of our organization and we are committed to creating a positive impact on the environment.  I am proud of the accomplishments we have made over the past year and I’m excited for what the future will bring for AET Group, with renewed commitments and investments into a sustainable future including a commitment to Net Zero Carbon Emissions across all our operations by 2030.  Our continued inclusion as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers reaffirms the positive actions we have taken and motivates us to deliver on our commitments to be an environmentally responsible company for our employees, our clients and the communities in which we work and live.”
