GHG Inventory Verification
Location: Regional Municipality of Waterloo
Client: Region of Waterloo
Date: 2012
The Regional Municipality of Waterloo is a diverse upper-tier municipality located approximately one hour west of Toronto in southern Ontario Canada. AET conducted the third-party verification of the Region’s community greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory and associated GHG forecast models that were prepared to meet the requirements of Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) Milestone 1. PCP is a network of Canadian municipal governments that have committed to reduce GHG and act on climate change through a milestone-based framework. Sources of community GHG that were verified included building energy consumption (residential, commercial, industrial, institutional sectors), transportation fuels, landfill waste, and agriculture.
The verification process resulted in several recommendations for the Region to improve the accuracy and efficiency of its community GHG management going forward.
