The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Waste Technician to join our dynamic team for an initial 4-month full-time contract basis, with potential to extend to permanent employment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in hands-on, physically active work and is passionate about contributing to environmental initiatives through data-driven waste management practices.

You will work closely with our Waste Audit Manager and Manager of Waste Analytics & Development, Project Managers, and Waste Team Leads to conduct safe, efficient, and impactful waste studies. This role involves frequent travel within Ontario and across Canada, often requiring overnight stays of 1–3 weeks at a time.

What You’ll Be Doing

Approximately 90% of your time will be spent conducting waste audit studies and fieldwork, including:

  • Collecting waste samples from residential, landfill, and recycling sites
  • Sorting and characterizing waste materials (garbage, recycling, organics)
  • Following standardized project methodologies and safety protocols
  • Using personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by AET
  • Maintaining accurate records and entering data for reporting purposes
  • Supporting additional environmental projects and administrative tasks as required

What You Bring

  • Diploma or degree in Environment or related field (preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract; experience towing a cargo trailer is an asset
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) and attention to detail
  • Professionalism, reliability, and a strong team mindset
  • Physical stamina to work outdoors in various weather conditions and lift up to 20 kg
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word is considered an asset
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively for fieldwork
