Product Carbon Footprint Assessment

Client: Conestoga Meat Packers
Location: Breslau, ON
Dates: 2012

Conestoga Meat Packers is one of Canada’s largest pork production companies. AET staff led a project for Conestoga to determine the life cycle energy and GHG impacts of its pork production and associated risks and opportunities that the company faces pertaining to climate change. The pork life cycle carbon footprint assessment required a detailed consideration of all major pork production phases and associated GHG emissions, including fertilizer manufacture and land application, manure land application, manure storage, and energy use at the farms and processing facility. AET provided Conestoga with a number of climate change-related risks (e.g. impact of severe weather on feed production) and opportunities (e.g. manure digesters) for consideration.
