Home Flood Protection

From 2017-2018 AET delivered over 500 Home Flood Protection Assessments In Ontario and Saskatchewan on behalf of the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation at the University of Waterloo. The goal of the assessments is to help homeowners reduce their risk of basement flooding and to reduce damage in the event of a flood. In 2019 AET secured a license from the University of Waterloo to provide Home Flood Protection Assessment services to residents across Canada.

During a Home Flood Protection Assessment homeowners will receive an interactive and educational assessment experience, a detailed report, additional resources, and the opportunity for a follow-up conversation with their assessor.

In roughly 60-90 minutes, our highly trained assessors work with homeowners to complete a 50-point visual assessment of potential sources of water entry into the home. Following the assessment, homeowners receive a confidential report that lists practical actions to:

  • Manage infiltration, sewer backup, and overland flood risk
  • Manage indoor humidity to reduce mold and mildew risk
  • Reduce risk of damage to structure and contents
  • Wisely manage water onsite
  • Understand risks as they relate to insurance coverage
